Travel Plaza Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager is primarily responsible for managing the store in the absence of the General Manager. The Assistant Manager is also responsible, in conjunction with the General Manager, for accomplishing store goals/objectives. The perfect fit for our Travel Plaza team would assist Store Management in creating a positive store culture by treating employees fairly and with respect.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 

  • Ensure implementation and enforcement of the store’s established daily procedures for operation.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of other store employees when General Manager absent/when needed.
  • Play a role in recruiting, hiring, training, and development of new employees
  • Perform administrative duties as required by the manager.
  • Maintain a clean and pleasant environment inside and outside the store, including buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Maintain cash register system and other computer applications utilized by the store.
  • Help with maintaining stock levels and inventory.
  • Help with ensuring the flawless execution of programs.
  • Communicates and networks effectively with staff, other departments, and outside representatives in order to maintain a productive and effective operation.
  • Monitor Travel Plaza environment and follow established safety procedures to provide for the safety of guests and coworkers.
  • Investigate inventory variations and shortages.
  • Ensure that there is delivery of excellent customer service.
  • Regularly review cashier accountability sheets and records as prescribed by the store manager.
  • Develop team atmosphere with employees.
  • Responsible for updating gas prices on a regular basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Four (4) year Degree in Business Administration or related field and three (3) years of successful experience as assistant manager of a convenience store or similar retail business or an equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrated knowledge and experience in teambuilding and teamwork.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Be knowledgeable and proficient in P.C. word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and email (experience with various POS systems a plus).
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 40 lbs. (and occasionally, up to 55 lbs.) from floor level to above shoulder height; must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.

SUPERVISION

  • Reports to General Manager of Travel Plaza.

SALARY

$29,265 to $34,850 Dependent on Experience and Qualifications.

Cashier/Convenience Store - Travel Plaza - Tama, IA

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use equipment and systems as supplied by the Trading Post, serve as cashier for the sale of fuel, gifts, tobacco products, deli items, groceries, and other products as provided by the Trading Post. Involved in the “scanning” of items using electronic equipment as well as some manual inputting of prices.
  • Responsible for the financial activities of his/her shift and register assignment including the completion, filing, and balancing of cash/credit/charge transactions as well as shift reporting.
  • Assist in the cleaning of various areas of the Trading Post including shelves, product, floors, bathrooms, garbage, windows, exterior areas, etc.
  • Assist in the display of product including “pulling” stock, adding to stock in coolers and on shelves, counter, and floor displays, etc.
  • Assist in the stocking of product in various areas of the Trading Post.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Manager, Assistant Manager, or Floor Managers of the Trading Post.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED with equivalent work experience.
  • Prefer work experience in the service or retail industry related to customer service and money handling.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers to process transactions, answer questions, greet customer, and perform other work-related activities with courtesy and tact.
  • Must be available to work any shift when needed.
  • Must submit to and successfully complete background check.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is required.

SALARY

Starting wage is $10.00 per hour

Cook - Travel Plaza - Tama, IA

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares or directs preparation of food served using established production procedures and systems.
  • Complies with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene and health standards.
  • Observes proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Stores food properly and safely, marking the date and item.
  • Reports necessary equipment repair and maintenance to supervisor.
  • Correctly prepares all food served following approved recipes.
  • Keeps work area neat and clean at all times; cleans and maintains equipment used in food preparation.
  • Completes food temperature checks before service.
  • Ensures that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.
  • Follow all relevant health department rules/regulations and all customer service guidelines.
  • Perform all other duties as required or assigned.

Route 30 Diner Wait Staff/Server

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet all customers in a timely manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service that promotes satisfaction.
  • Take orders from patrons for food or beverages.
  • Perform cleaning duties, make sure tables are clean and tidy, remove empty plates and used silverware.
  • Maintain knowledge of available menu items.
  • Ensure appropriate record of all customer orders to ensure there are no discrepancies in billing.
  • Manage customer queries and ensure appropriate resolution of all customer queries.
  • Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely delivery of all services.
  • Verify that customers are satisfied with their orders.
  • Follow all relevant health department rules/regulations and all customer service guidelines.
  • Communicate with customers and other employees in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • Collect payments from customers.
  • Prepare table for the next customers once a party has departed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PAY RATE

$6.25 Plus Tips; Benefits available for fulltime hiring status

REQUIREMENTS

  • Food service experience preferred, but can train upon hire
  • First and second shift, part-time and full-time available
